One Town,
Many Stories.
Founded on 12 November 2015, Northampton Town of Sanctuary (NTOS) is a registered charity committed to fostering a culture of welcome, inclusion, and support for people seeking asylum and refugees across Northampton.
In 2016, we established our youth programme, Learn2Live (L2L), which provides a safe and supportive environment for young people to connect, develop skills, and build confidence.
We work collaboratively with local organisations, schools, faith groups, and community partners to develop a town-wide network of support—one that promotes dignity, respect, and a genuine sense of belonging for all.
NTOS is proud to be part of the national City of Sanctuary movement, founded in Sheffield in 2007, which now includes over 50 towns and cities across the UK committed to creating welcoming communities.
Our founder, former Councillor Danielle Stone, set out a clear vision: to inspire local organisations, businesses, and institutions to actively welcome refugees by offering safe spaces, practical support, and opportunities to integrate into the community.
We recognise that many individuals seeking sanctuary have experienced significant trauma, conflict, and displacement. Their journeys are often complex and challenging, and the barriers they face upon arrival can be considerable. Our work therefore focuses on delivering practical support, strengthening community connections, and enabling individuals to rebuild their lives with dignity and independence.
Northampton has a long-standing tradition of being a welcoming town. NTOS is proud to contribute to this legacy by standing in solidarity with those in need and working towards a more inclusive and compassionate community.

Our Mission
Our mission is to foster social inclusion, equality, and understanding by working alongside people seeking sanctuary and migrants to co-create programs that empower them to thrive in the UK. Through partnerships with voluntary, community, and faith organisations, we provide services and opportunities that support adaptation to new communities and promote positive relationships across society.

We envision a welcoming and inclusive society where people seeking sanctuary and migrants are valued, supported, and able to contribute fully—building strong, diverse communities united by respect, understanding, and shared humanity.
